For all illustrators, graphic designers, and advertisers that are living in Savannah and studying at Savannah College of Art and Design (or for any artist or designer for that matter)…
Look at the first image: this is the official flyer and poster for this weekends upcoming events of the Savannah Music Stop Over Festival. The person who designed this was paid for this poster design , which is now all over Savannah. Now look at the second image: this image was created by the UK illustrator, Matt Taylor for his winning entry for the book cover design in 2008 for “The Island at the End of the World” written by Sam Taylor.
Now look at the final image: this is a screen shot of the poster (made in 2011) compared to the book cover illustration (made in 2008)….what the fuck?
This illustrator, who sadly is studying at SCAD, was paid to design this poster, which not only consisted of terrible photoshopping, but of serious copyright issues. This truly saddens me, as many of our professors stress the idea of copyright and authenticity.
seriously though. i was pissed when you told everyone in class.
I was in correspondence with the handler of the poster contest this week and considered e-mailing her about the copyright infringement but did not know enough information. Thank you for bringing more light to it and I hope that those publicizing the concert immediately cease reproducing the SCAD student’s image and take all of those down that are already up.
As someone who worked very hard on an original poster that will also be advertising the concerts, I feel ashamed to be a part of it at all.
this is fucking insane. seriously how did this get by?
